Advancing USC's strategic vision for teaching with technology

The mission of ITS Learning Design & Technology (LD&T) is to identify and recommend practices and technologies that advance teaching, learning, and research in support of USC’s strategic vision.

LD&T’s strategic goals are to:

  • Support and advance teaching, learning, and research at USC through the innovative and effective use of technology
  • Manage the university’s mission-critical, enterprise-level Learning Management System (LMS) and other campus-wide educational technologies
  • Assist faculty with the effective alignment of research-driven pedagogical practices and technology solutions
  • Sponsor events that provide forums for discussion of teaching challenges, opportunities, and sharing of strategies that are effectively supported by technology
  • Explore and experiment with emerging technologies, multimedia and new pedagogies
  • Evaluate the impact of teaching with technology approaches, including the efficacy and scalability of technology solutions in supporting instructional activities, assignments, and assessments

New technologies have changed how students communicate, gather information and learn; how faculty teach, conduct research and work with each other; and how services and operations are delivered and carried out. We have re-imagined and upgraded our classrooms, auditoria, and computing centers to support a variety of teaching styles, class interaction, and multimedia formats. We have an opportunity to build the digital university by leveraging digital capacity in teaching, research, patient care, artistic expression, professional practice and service.—excerpt from USC’s Strategic Vision: Matching Deeds to Ambitions
